Term 2

Hello Parents,

The children have had a busy and happy start to the term. They have thoroughly enjoyed the swimming program.

RELIGION
Our topics for Religion this term are ‘Jesus is Alive! Alleluia!’ and ‘The World Around Us.’ In ‘Jesus is Alive! Alleluia!, the children have learnt about Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection and the sending of Jesus’ spirit through New Testament stories which explore these events and experiences. In ‘The World Around Us’ the children will explore the goodness of God’s creation. We will introduce prayers and psalms of praise for ‘The Creation Story’ as ways of responding to this gift.

INQUIRY
This term our Inquiry topic is ‘Living Things’ with a focus on plants. We will look at what living things need in order to grow and incorporate science and ‘hands on’ experiments to investigate this further. We will be planting and caring for things in our little garden outside the Prep room and are hoping to investigate the different types of plants in and around our local area.

LITERACY
Our Reading and Writing Block this term and it continues to be an important part of our day. We will continue to learn the sounds that the letters make and will continue to explore the strategies that good readers use. Please continue to encourage your child to read their take home book each night as well as practise their MIOOW words. We do understand that life is busy and the children get tired, but it is important to establish an enjoyable reading routine each night when possible.

MATHS
This term our Maths curriculum will include Numbers 11-20, addition, daily counting: forwards and backwards from different starting points,  ordinal number, pattern, time,  3D shapes, length, mass, location and  everyday opportunities to explore number  and problem solving using 'hands on' materials.

PLAY AND LEARN
The children thoroughly enjoy our weekly ‘Play and Learn’ Sessions and this will continue to be an important and regular part of our Prep program. Play is basic to all of us. It is essential for learning and human development and is one of the most fundamental processes by which children learn. Research has proven that children who play do better in school and become more successful adults. We are always on the lookout for pre-loved materials and things that can be used in our Play and Learning sessions.

CLASS BLOG
Prep Blog to the children this term and we will enjoy sharing our learning with you. Our class blog can be accessed at http://stprep2015.blogspot.com.au/

We ask you to please continue encouraging your child to be as independent as possible each morning. It’s great to see so many children checking their blue folders for notices and checking in without reminders.
We look forward to the rest of the term and thank you for all of your support and assistance.

Andrea, Peta and Jan

Learning about the letter t

Preps have been learning about the letter 't'. We have practised writing both the lower and upper case letters. We also came up with a long list of words beginning with t.
All the children made a beautiful 'Toucan Hat'

Welcome
